The following is a Newspaper article from January 1967 titled "Mystery Bird Seen Flying Over Avenue"
POINT PLEASANT - It looked like a bird as big as a plane and had legs like a man, the latest Mason Monster sighter reported.
Mrs. Mabel McDaniel of 30th Street, Point Pleasant, said she saw a dark-colored flying creature with an extremely wide wingspan as she was driving on Jackson Avenue at about 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Mrs. McDaniel is the mother of Mrs. Roger Scarberry, one of the original sighters of the bird-like creature popularly known as the "Mason Monster."
A number of hunters have reported seeings owls, larger than normal size, in the Mason County area.
